I bought the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote couple of days ago. It works like a charm and is really useful. After using it for a while i noticed, it’s just a button. A really simple part of equipment. Nothing special.
then i thought a little more and found out that you can make your own for almost free. Well it’s just a theory but it should work. All you need is a universal remote for a tv or some electronic equipment. Most of these nowadays “learn” functions/ir codes from older remotes. Now you only need to borrow the wireless IR remote for a digital camera from your friend (you need the one that also works for you dSLR camera).
When you have these, just “learn” the ir code from the camera remote and it should work… It’s theory but feel free to try it out and let me know if it works
You could save some $$ this way.

Or, if you have a watch that was popular a few years ago which had an IR controler to store the codes while pressing the IR button to change the TV channel.
Some friend own this watch (for about 50 € I guess) and one day he was standing on the parking space waiting to came across someone with a car remote controler to lock/unlock his car. Suddenly one guy came across with an old Renault Clio and after he left the car he pressed the button to lock this car with remote controler and a friend with this creepy watch located the code and unlocked his car. The owner of Clio tried to lock it again but the story continued for some time until a friend gave up
So, you could borrow that super-druper watch from someone, locate the IR code and than with you watch can also be used the wireless IR commander for the camera.
