I must say IJEEEEJ! I really must get this magazine and see it for myself. Having almost animated front cover of a magazine must be amazing. A lot of sites think this is a bad idea and the whole thing isn’t worth it at all since the magazine had to develop a really small battery that would fit the magazine and spent for that a pretty nice 6 figure number.
The cover seems disappointing to some people since it only blinks. Well… the GIF images also blink and people use them on most of their websites for years! And yeah the Esquire’s made the first step to have this things on paper. Also i don’t think that a lot of people could buy stuff with this type of ink freely. Those were only shown on events and you couldn’t take anything home.
The whole process and understanding of the e-ink and what it can do is now in the hands of those 100.000 people, that will have this magazine. they will be the first one to understand this technology and they will be the first ones to get ideas on how it can it even be used better etc.
So anyone who is saying this is worthless think twice. History thought us many things and throwing a stick between the legs of someone who’s starting to run forward usually doesn’t give any benefits to no one. You could also try to to burn them on a hill like in the old days. Some people think this is smart.
Anyways, kudos to Esquire’s magazine! I really think the covers will pop out of other covers easily.
