Choosing a right niche/topic

I’ll be talking about the basic steps of starting a blog. These will be the first things you will need to do, before starting a blog. The most important one is: “Why do you need/want a blog, and what will you be writing about?” Ask yourself that question and maybe make a plan and write it down on your paper. What interests you, what would interest your readers and why? What have you to share with the world?

Now some questions won’t be needed in some situations. If you want to make money out of blogging, you will need to find a good niche to write on (i’ll be talking about this a lot more in the future since this is a BIG topic). Maybe you’re a fan on photography and will make pa photo blog. Or you’re better at talking freely than writing stuff down, then a blog with podcasting is for you. You can even entertain people with funny news videos you make. The choice is all yours.

But if you really want to get into blogging, i suggest you choose a niche or topic, that really interests you, like cats, dogs, cars, beer, food, sports or maybe you have a hobby of some kind. Also a blog about parenting could be a really good choice. Again, use something you like since if you want to make it, you’ll really need to write stuff daily, maybe even couple of times per day. daily updated blogs have more returning visitors etc.

If you have a business, write about that and get some exposure for it. There are almost limitless topics, some are more popular, other’s aren’t, but the bottom line is, you will find people that have same or similar interest and those will be looking for your blog and read it daily. I personally go to some blogs couple of times per day and am looking if they got updated with some new articles or news.

Now what are the reasons you shouldn’t write on some topic only for money or because it’s popular? If that topic is already popular, you will really need to write good or even better stuff then your competition. Here’s a short example. Blogs about celebrities are popular, really popular! If you want to write about celebrities you will need:

• A lot of knowledge about all of the celebrities, there habits, what they do,…
• A way to get better pictures and news than other blogs (and maybe even newspapers)
• You will need to get these news and pictures BEFORE THEM
• It will take a lot of time until you rank good for celebrity keyword terms on search engines
• Your content and opinions should be more interesting then others
• etc.

now this shouldn’t let you down, NO WAY! If you want to make it you’ll make it. It will just take some more time. And that’s why i said write what you love, since it will be far more easier and you’ll have more fun too! Enjoy each post you write, take your time have a beer or some cold ice tea while writing, listen to music, GET INSPIRED! It is also possible, that you have some related topics, look at my blog for instance.

I also suggest, if you have English as a second language or maybe even third, that you write in your mother language! It’s better to be number 1 in town, than the last one in the city!

Also a good idea would be to make a blog with couple of your friends, where you could also comment each other. More brains know more!
