Those at the top of the pyramid keep on adding to their kitty by collecting commissions from whatever sales the people below them in the pyramid structure make.

In the MLM set-up, companies sell products to distributors for at a certain price. The distributors, in turn, sell it to the customers at higher prices. The distributors receive incentives for getting new distributors to join. The new distributors joining the network are called ‘first level distributors’ and the successive distributors are known as ‘second level distributors’.

Nowadays, the MLM schemes have gained a bit of respect by serving genuine products such as phone cards. Yet, there is no denying the fact that most of the pyramid schemes are still fraud and are innately dishonest. You will keep on earning for some one else until you are at the top of the pyramid scheme yourself.

Now, it must be obvious to you that affiliate marketing cannot be compared to Multi-Level Marketing in any plausible way. Unlike MLM, in affiliate business, one site takes the help of another site simply to advertise its products and direct traffic to it.

You will, no doubt, come across hierarchical arrangement in multi-level affiliate marketing but it will never be same as MLM. Actually, in multi-level affiliate marketing, one site directs the traffic to another site and then that particular site guides people to the eventual site that is promoting the product.

You do not have any sort of financial transaction taking place in the process, yet everyone gets paid in multi-level affiliate marketing. The Sponsor makes money by selling the product and even pays both the previous sites. The customers too are not fooled in that they ultimately have a product/service to benefit from.

Knowing all this you should never mingle multi-tiered affiliate marketing with multi-level marketing and panic for no reason. Affiliate marketing is always a safe bet for you.
